Salon presents: Experimental Fragments by Austin Fernando.
Taking inspiration from abstract expressionism, prehistoric art, the natural world, Classical cameo carvings and August Rodin’s sculptures, Austin creates figurative and abstract sculpture using materials ranging from clay and plaster to latex and bio-plastics. His work celebrates the unique beauty of his materials, conveying the sense of wonder with which he meets the world.

This is an installation about ownership, belonging, and the complexity of community. It creates literal grey areas.
The exhibition is slowly reduced, counting down from 1000 pieces at the beginning – deconstructed and changing shape as people take ownership of the individual pieces of the whole. At the same time, by taking a piece one owner becomes connected to every other. They are part of something bigger, if more diffuse.

Lily Hughes presents The Cleaner – a portrait of one artist’s labour in Margate’s Airbnb industry. The experience of cleaning holiday lets is seen through the lens of her art practice, which would not have been possible without a second job. Drawings, linocuts, sculpture and a short film are collected here to produce a body of research that explores different types of work, and the politics of time, money and art.

Lisa Hawkins is an oil painter, who is interested in Spirit of Place, memory, imagination and colour. The works are completed from drawings and studies in the landscape and worked up in the studio to evoke the “feeling” of the original encounter. Not necessarily representative, they nonetheless have a deep connection to their original subject.
