Eve Stickler – ‘The Thanetarium‘
17/07/25 till 23/07/25
All the pieces in this show have their origins in Thanet.
As a Ramsgate resident since 2017, Eve has developed a fascination with the light, architecture, vistas and joy of the Thanet towns. She paints highly coloured representations of local places and scenes, sometimes elaborating or adding elements as the combination of light, colour and the painting process ignites her imagination.
This additionality has developed into a full blown reimagining; a whimsical investigation combining paint, semi-abstraction, print and wit to create a unique collection of images that pose the following questions:
- What if all you see isn’t actually all that is there?
- What if the glorious shapes and colours of our townscapes are actually an elaborate mask disguising the entry to an additional and fantastical place?
- What if you were given the opportunity to glimpse the hidden magic of Thanet from an alternative perspective?
Welcome to the Thanetarium.
About the Artist:
Eve Stickler is a Ramsgate artist with a passion for the unique qualities of the light, architecture and colour of the town.
Having graduated in 1986 with a degree in the applied crafts (wood, metal, ceramics and textiles) she has continually created art whilst also progressing in her 39 year career leading London services to support the education and wellbeing of children and families. She took early retirement in 2023 to focus on living a creative life in Thanet.
She develops her visual research on every local walk, noticing both the ordinary and the extraordinary, and uses those images as reference for her acrylic paintings, creating dynamic landscapes, townscapes and pictorial scenarios.
She has recently developed her creative practice, manipulating motifs from her paintings to create new environments and fictional settings, always with regard and respect for the original place.
Eve says her use of high colour in her work acts as a catalyst to joy. The physical act of painting takes her to a happy place, gives her focus, and increases her sense of wellbeing. Her aim is to pass on that same sense of joy to the viewer, engaging them in the fun of telling visual stories, with colour as the language that needs no translation.
Eve posts regular updates and photos of new work on Instagram @edsepie.
She has exhibited widely in London and the South East.
